My views of House design

Everyday life of 10000 times

The number of times for daily living will amazingly expand when you begin your life in a new house. First, notice that one year contains 365 days. Within 30 years, you will have spent more than 10,000 days. Everyday necessities such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, using the restroom or taking a bath are repeated more than 10,000 times. Thinking about it, to live daily in an affluent place such as a house can lead to enriched things. We try to consciously design houses for long term daily living.

Joy, Anger, Grief, and Pleasure

In daily life, people live, experiencing a variety of emotions. One day you may feel fine as you can forgive anything. The next day you may feel withdrawn or overwhelmed by deep grief as you don't feel like talking to anyone. There may be days positive feelings are encouraged by listening to the voice of your children jumping around at a reading room. We think that creating a house is to create a personal space which can embrace the complexity of human psychology.

Resident and Residence

People change as time goes by. Naturally families can change as well. We have never ever thought of creating a house in order to adjust it to our clients or their families. We do keep in mind that we uniquely design a house for the existence of the person, so that the space and the resident can connect with each other. We embrace a natural flow every time we create a totally different house.

Client and Architect

As an architect, listening to a client's demand is essential. However, we do not think of creating architecture solely by accepting anything the client wishes. Space should be created by considering the essence of what a client does and does not wish. Every single day we design with such considerations in mind.

Meeting

There are no two same locations where architecture is built. In the same way there are no two same clients who come to live at the same place. Every day we design with a strong consciousness of what each of them have, each irreplaceable by history, individuality, and the environment, existing only at that place. In our opinion, necessarily new shape of residence will be produced each time by doing it this way. Meeting a new client is also the moment to meet a new architecture.

Concept in architectural design

Unique words born from dialogue

The client starts a project with us with a corporate philosophy and purpose. We value the philosophy and objectives of our projects through dialogue and research for each project, reorganizing them into our own, reintegrating them as easily as possible, and putting them into words. This word is shared as a concept in the project, and at the same time, each client company is thrown to the customer as his / her own words in each position, and that is the most reliable branding.

Matrix of architecture

We call the words born from dialogue with clients the concept of architecture. We always aim to realize the space according to this architectural concept. The concept is the matrix of the project itself, and because that is clear, it is possible to discuss with various people from various viewpoints and incorporate individual fleshing according to detailed requests from the site, never to be shaken. I think that the architecture of the form that will be realized.

Easy to understand, sympathize with many people

We always think that empathy with many people is one of the most important things in a project with public or commercial nature. In order to gain empathy, first of all, we believe that easy to understand is important as the background. Because it is easy to understand the architecture and the concept embedded in the space, many people can understand it, and the people working on the spot who are selected in comparison with others can also explain to users because it is easy to understand and be able to make a choice that suits the concept. I believe this is a true empathy. Creating an architecture always takes on many complex requirements, but we value the resulting clarity.

Freedom that is not bound by the frame

I like Japanese tea culture. I am impressed with the name of a small tea bowl, the history of the box, and the fact that it is just one existence beyond the function of a bowl for drinking tea. As is clear from the history of the tool, whether it is gorgeous or simple, whether it is expensive, inexpensive, domestic, or not, the cultural direction itself of numerology that is not bound by any frame, I think it is an expression of Japanese values. Japan as a cultural background for me is such a free way of thinking and I want to create architecture that leads to such a freedom.

Newness of renovation

In the world of Japanese tea, there is the word “gold joint”. When repairing a broken vessel, it is a repair method that does not repair the broken part so that the broken part is not known, but dares to fill it with gold in a striking way. This revives the vessel including its broken history. Gold is not harmful to the human body, so we can put our mouth back as a vessel. I also design architectural renovations with that in mind.

Philosophy

Unchanging essence and changing times

It can be said that the environment surrounding us changes from day to day, but if we change our view, it can be said that it has not changed much since long ago. Similarly, it can be said that our life continues to change according to social changes, but it can be said that it has not changed substantially since ancient times.
For us, thinking of architecture is to identify the “essence” that does not change with respect to the required function, and to envision it as a space that should be drawn, “now”.

Establishment of a place that “fits” the topography

Architecture can be said to be a place on the ground. Although the earth is one, there is no same place, and each has a small topography. The topography is continuous and generates wind and determines the sun. As a result, vegetation is formed, creating an environment and creating our life.
We are always thinking about the way of architecture that does not oppose such “topography”. This is because reading the “topography” and creating a “suitable” place is the most appropriate way to sustain society while enjoying the richness of nature.

Uniqueness of architecture

We believe that there are things like “topography” not only in the physical land but also in various activities such as commerce, agriculture, education, culture and religion that surround us. If the conditions of function, client, surrounding environment, history, management vision, cost, law, etc. are regarded as a collection of small topography, the unique “topography” as the background of the project can be obtained by reading and linking these relationships. I can see it. We envision architecture as a concrete form that fits the unique “topography”. This is because it is the best way to coexist with nature and enrich and sustain human activities. As a result, just as the same topography is not found anywhere, we believe that reading a unique topography creates a unique architecture.
